Required Software
There are a few different software requirements that must be met to access UTC's network. These requirements were put into place to keep the network a safe place. UTC's network supports Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac OS X, and Linux. The software requirements outlined on this page do not apply to Mac OS X or Linux as of now. Someday Mac OS X and Linux will have to follow these requirements as well. If you use Windows 2000/XP/Vista continue on, otherwise, go on to the next page.
If any problems are encoutered during the installation of any of this software you can consult the FAQ or call the IT Support Desk.
Antivirus Software
Antivirus software is required to be installed and running at all times. You must provide your own antivirus software. UTC's network registration and monitoring software supports many different kinds of antivirus software. Some of them are free, some of them are not. You only need to have one installed on your computer, so make sure to check if your computer already has some installed and running. Here are all of the supported antivirus software:
Avast Antivirus
Avira-AntiVir
AVG
Kaspersky
McAfee
Microsoft OneCare
Norton and Symantec
Trend Micro
Windows Updates
The last software requirement is that the operating system must be completely up-to-date with security patches. They are usually released on Tuesdays and depending on how your computer is set up, they will download automatically. If they are not, or if the Bradford Agent tells you that the Windows Updates are not completely installed then you can go to Microsoft's Windows Updates page to get them. Note that you may have to visit this site multiple times to get all the the available updates.
On To Step 3
Once you have all the required software then you are all ready to go. You can visit the Getting Registered page for instructions on how to get registered on the network and browsing the internet.
