Email Setup (SMTP only)


Many people have their personal email accounts set up on their computers through Outlook or Entourage (Mac). However, when they put their computer on UTC's network they lose the ability to send email. This is an easy problem to fix and is outlined below for both Outlook and Entourage.

Outlook

  1. Go to the control panel and open up the "Mail" icon.

  2. Click the "Email Accounts" button.

  3. Choose the "View or change existing e-mail accounts" selection and click next.

  4. Choose the appropriate email account from the list and click "Change".

  5. Everything will stay the same with the exception of the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)". It needs to be set to 'smtp.utc.edu', leaving off the quotes. (Highlighted)

  6. Click "Next" and then click "Finish". Outlook will work properly now.

Entourage

  1. Inside Entourage go to the "Tools" menu and then select "Accounts".
  2. Select the appropriate email account and then click the "Edit" button.

  3. In the next window everything will stay the same with the exception of the "SMTP server" under the "Sending Mail" section. Change the entry to 'smtp.utc.edu', leaving off the quotes. (Highlighted)

  4. Click OK and close the Accounts window. Entourage will work properly now.
